I can't answer that. I know that congress passed an emergency bill after Sandy that carried a fifty billion price tag. All but one of the Texas representatives voted against it.

I'm pretty sure they will pass an emergency bill. The question is whether or not they will demand cuts in other areas to offset the cost. Maybe they will ask Trump to decide between relief funds and wall construction. That would be interesting.

I usually like to say 1 in 5 Question though : My house is not in a low lying area, I don't have flood insurance... If my house floods due to some crazy storm I likely would not be covered... My choice because the risk would not justify the cost

Once a disaster is declared, federal funds are made available. That can be in many forms. Most homeowners will take advantage of low interest loans. Even those come with restrictions.

Especially after the great Tennessee flood of 2010, it's a must. Even that flood didn't affect me directly, but a lot of nearby lower lying areas were submerged. The nearby Cumberland River runs through our sister city which got creamed.

Not much. Like Doc said, it's a matter of your elevation in relation to the nearest body of water (and otherwise whether you're in a high risk zone with poor drainage). I think ours is just a couple hundred dollars a year.

In Tennessee, everything gets wrapped up with your mortgage... property taxes, homeowners insurance, but flood and earthquake insurance is optional.

I'm sorry to hear that, jc. My own mother is in a similar situation. She let her diabetes get out of control and had to have her foot amputated. She can only remember her grandchildren on good days. It was her time I the ICU, that did it.

Earthquake insurance is cheap in MN. Thing is, there are areas that could become active around here...and it's the same for other such non - shaky areas. Why not have insurance for it. I think it's about $100/year.
