I think Trump should put up the first couple of billion for the wall. He says he has the cash. And all he has to do is send a bill to Mexico. He could probably negotiate a huge interest rate.

At least his bluster has been keeping people from crossing the border, who knows how long that'll hold up. (& yes people crossing the border include more than just 'Mexicans' so forget Doc's usual Mexican net-migration has been zero talking point)

So it's like a virtual wall built mostly on Trump's hot air, and threats of future enforcement (actual enforcement hasn't changed so much). Virtual wall doesn't cost anything!

My favorite part was where the article provided detail on Murphy's donations. I was looking forward to the part where Manchin's were detailed... Maybe I should read it again

The reason I say this is too messy is because one group is intent on removing the legacy costs from solvent corporations. One group is just trying to buy votes by bailing out the pension fund. While both groups are working towards the same end, they

The headline itself which makes a point of costs being transferred to the US tax payer as if liberals have EVER considered that to be a bad thing is especially cute, and then throw in some government shutdown sensationalism

This is all caused by the precipitous drop in the coal market. The pension fund was a multi employer fund. One fund covered many coal companies. When the bottom fell out, companies folded without making their required contributions.

Each company that folds adds extra preasure on the ones that survive. That's where we are now. Where it goes from here is anybody's guess. But it won't be pretty.

AMI - the story is about Murphy's proposal, which bails out the mining company for billions. Donations he received from that company are absolutely relevant. This isn't Manchin's proposal... You make no sense.

My favorite part of it was when you actually decided to read past the headline and realized half of it was the "counter weight" you said wasn't there. ;)

Re Manchin: that's a stretch in this specific situation. His opposition benefits taxpayers by not being on the hook for this private company's pensions.
