Coal miners are having voters's remorse, because they're about to lose the ACA coverage.

it has nothing to do with that horribly conceived law and everything to do with the systematic dismantling of their profession via regulation, no jobs = no benefit funding

AMi,,, What weight do you give regulations as opposed to market pressures caused by cheap natural gas, and increasingly cheaper solar generation?

It seems to me that the utility companies are just following the lead of the rest of the marketplace. There's a reason you don't heat your home with coal. And it ain't regulations.

Regs hastened what was happening organically I guess.

For a long time, the utilities could make up costs with the economy of scale. Gas just got too cheap to ignore. Transportation cost zero, continuous availability. Relatively clean burning, no residue to dispose of. What's not to like?

Black lung disease have them more concern about their healthcare, then the market forces getting rid the coal industry. How do you burn coal cleaning?

JC, no doubt cheap natural gas didn't help but pricey regulations surely inhibited research.... we have tons of coal, like a ridiculous amount... we should be putting our money into assessing how to best expand its use

The time for research was when the industry was booming. If they didn't look into the future, shame on them. I guess they thought they had a lock on cheap fuel. Who knows? In another ten years coal could again be the fuel du jour.

Maybe the repeal and delay ends up becoming like that doc fix thing...

SGR was so flipping annoying. That said, MACRA isn't much better.

So I'm thinking Obamacare gets 'repealed' but the delay for when that really happens keeps getting extended, while smaller changes actually go into effect.

The Drew @ 6 months ago

And if that ends up being the case, it'd be possible to politically take 'credit' for a repeal that doesn't happen similarly to the way that was done when Obama just vetoed the bill.
