We shouldn't be surprised after witnessing the primaries
Again and again, we've underestimated both Trump and the moron demographic.
that's "basket of deplorable" thank you very much
she would have been a disgusting first woman president and screw everything just like Obama as the first black
looks more like it will be Sarah Palin's calling .
she doesn't have to be blue or red just irritable judgemental and irrational
who was it that said A Woman's Place is not in the White House? Oh yeah Marilyn Monroe-- what do we talk about now? The mess left by the previous administration perhaps?
do you really think Muslims transgenders minorities and immigrants all have something to fear today?
Muslims and Mexicans might. Uptick in hate crimes wouldn't surprise me...along with a slap on the wrist and a wink to the perps, as long as they pick on the right minority.
I feel the first victims will be the male caucasian individuals on the street straying into the wrong neighborhood , lots of angry Mexican Muslim African Americans out there today
And guaranteed they will hear their rhetoric that someone is out to get them
when you say uptick, how many Muslims minorities or Mexicans were attacked by white supremacists say last month?
the results are quite different when Googling "angry black mob"and "white supremacist attack"
People hear what they want to hear and disregard the rest.

damnit pink this is not a time to be ironic.
and its because surrogates preaching to the choir dont really move the needle. pundits on cnn last night liked to talk about trump being helped by visiting michigan and wisconsin but nothing changed except for turnout.
Uhh that's the important part
it was the candidates and their baggage, its just that trump's baggage specifically appealed to whites who literally feel like a loss of political power equals total loss of power.
It isn't about surrogates preaching to the choir, it's about generating excitement to someone who might not actually go to the rally but see it on tv, to not stay home. Bam didn't do that
donald trump promised them total power again in not so many words (and dog whistles) this is what identity politics looks like for white voters who feel like minorities have it too good in america.
hillary clinton didnt represent anything except people who have wanted hillary clinton to be president. fear of trump would be a demographic that came with any democrat.
when all the voter data comes in and CNN has always had the best access to it online you will see (if im right) this was about white voters.
White democrats that im sure you wondered yourself why they were still democrats probably voted for trump. i mean bernie sanders supporters may have stayed home but they certainly didnt vote for trump.
Forget this round, what about all the other times Obama wasn't on the ballot and tried acting as a surrogate
All the state legislatures lost...
sure, maybe some of them voted for sanders, but they saw it as not hillary, they were never advocates of his populist-socialist policies. These white democrats, like white men in their 50's who considered themselves
democrats simply because they have always been democrats.
All the Dem seats lost well before what happened last night. And last night just further to that.
That's from last March, what's it gonna look like now
Lots of excuses in the article, but all those things were the case for other Democrats.
people like to monday morning quarterback and theyre usually wrong (except me, im always right) But look at the fact that Trump won North Carolina by something like 150,000 votes, but pat mcrory might have lost.
this, more than anything shows that what i am saying is the most likely reason.
Blue collar white voters in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, and possibly Michigan
And a higher than expected pro Trump Latino vote
These two influences are what got Trump the win

I told you, when humans pick a tribe, they stick with it.
humans arent as advanced as we think, were still fearful, tribal and operate a lot on impulse.
89% of democrats voted for hillary and 90% of republicans voted for trump.
Now why were the polls so wrong. My guess is that the pollsters had embedded very similar (and wrong) assumptions on who'd be likely voters, and then weighted those samples accordingly.
was that different than the last 4 elections?
or people lied, do you like in that debate where trump said "because you'd be in prison" and a good number of people cheered? that crowd was supposed to be undecided voters.
that automatically qualifies you for immoderate
This is what I'm talking about how Democrats not named Obama have done terribly since his inauguration. http://observer.com/2015/11/obama-has-decimated-his-own-party-unlike-any-other-modern-president/
And last night will just add to that.
no ami, it wasnt different. when i have been doing my the republican party is the party of donald trump spiel i have included that its always the case in these elections.
democrats get 90% of democrat votes republicans get 90% of republican votes. Party identity isnt a 100% thing. And that independents are mostly republicans who feel that the label doesnt accurately represent them.
independents usually break for republicans.
the most telling about this election is that more people who voted for trump found him to be untrustworthy, intemperate, and unqualified than people who felt the same about clinton, by wide margins.
They so badly wanted to push the fúck you button
i think 20% of people who said that trump was untrustworthy still voted for donald trump. versus 4% for clinton.
It didn't matter to them... It was all about pushing that button
No, those are the republicans who said they wouldnt vote for trump, but they did.
people who told pollsters they were voting for a third party, or were undecided.
I dunno if we can trust those polls now I mean after the amount of fúck up that they've had
People lying, people not answer, people not weighted correctly
there is no #### you button, thats an excuse, a #### stirrer electorate. that isnt real. its a justification for a decision they made on identity, on racism or on fear.
its like when my wife says she voted for obama because hes black. She didnt, she voted for obama because she thought that is what i wanted, she wouldnt have voted otherwise.
It can't be all of those goings plus the fck you button?
well exit polling is all we had and its a nationwide sample which eliminates problems in michigan and wisconsin, and i dont think people would have lied to questions that paint them as trump voters that dont trust him.
I mean I really don't know, just saying my faith in all the polling is pretty shattered
the #### you button is an excuse, when i hammer people about their trump votes people like to revert to that because its the most easily defended/dead end.
I dunno, you've got this amazing ability to read people's minds.
sam harris (atheist author) did a talk about that excuse he points out that it could only be an argument for the most illiterate of supporter because it reveals they dont understand that you still need something
to function, that destorying the system would destroy everything, not just things you dont like. thats a simplification but if you want to listen its a podcast he did with joe rogan.
sam harris also tweeted that its ironic that evangelicals just elected the first atheist president (thats absurd obama was the first atheist president)
thats mostly a joke,im not as sure that obama is atheist as i am that trump is.
and there are things we cant know, nothing will tell us the absolute truth, but you have to use the closest thing that you got.
if you ask someone if they are racist, even if they are in the klan they are going to lie nowadays.
you have to be sneaky and ask sneaky and even then you dont get 100% honesty.
I have to agree with Drew. I pressed that button too (by writing "none of the above").

it is funny though that after all the times republicans talked about losing but possibly winning the popular vote and hillary may be the actual one to do it.
If Donald Trump is as bad a president as I expect him to be this will really mean the end of the Republican party. As I have always said.
im telling my friend on facebook to stop crying and plan for 2018. donald trump promised his coalition of racists and ####s the world and he cannot deliver.
similar to Pink's claim that Obama will be the last black President?
Oak Brook, IL 60523, USA
Equally right, but for different reasons.
Rural vs urban part of this story? Feel like he's onto something there. http://www.cracked.com/blog/6-reasons-trumps-rise-that-no-one-talks-about/
sore winners and gracious losers
I'm looking forward to Trump's secret plan to destroy ISIS. I'm sure he can finance it with the tax money collected from all of those booming coal mines. That would win me over. I really don't care if he builds the wall. Just rebuilding the
crumbling infrastructure is fine with me. And he doesn't have to deport all of the Mexicans. We'll need them to help fill the millions of manufacturing jobs that are just around the corner. All in all, it's gonna be great... again.
I think Obama is about to lay a reality bomb on him tomorrow
I think Trump will prove to be the best president this country has ever had and finally a first lady we can truly call a MILF
But will any of it sink in? I'm just hoping everything was one big show and *somehow* he's different in presidency.
We're going to find out, probably in ways we can't imagine now.
Dow reached an all time high today
I'm still selling off. I just don't see anything in the cards that will make the market rise much. And historically, the first year of a presidency sucks.
I'm curious as to how Trump will lead. He may become the great delegater. Because I believe the scope of the job will scare the hell out of him.
A while back me and a friend talked about it and came to the conclusion that he's either going to be the worst president ever or the best president ever.
anything but mediocre I think
The Russians think he's gonna be fabu.
yeah we certainly can't have that again
Well I'm willing to keep an open mind about this. I'm hopeful he'll disappoint the "nuclear option" crowd by not utterly destroying the republic.
Maybe he'll surprise us in a good way?
But with a Republican Congress by his side, you can bet the ACA is as good as gone. Trade deals are going to change big time or just be axed. There's going to be some chaos, no matter what.
What about all the Obama executive actions/orders
Not only are those in danger (if you indeed liked them), but a precedent for Trump to use them is now there
I'm not saying any or all of this will be for the worse. What I'm interested to see is how much I personally benefit from tax breaks and increase of my business. I still think it's gonna be, fúck the poor. Fúck the very people that put you in
office. Trump has screwed his business partners numerous times with no remorse at all. So while his policies may translate to a personal benefit for me, I have a feeling his "partners" here are going to get thoroughly screwed.
No idea if Trump will actually help those people but they've been neglected for quite some time. The rural poor I mean. Such a sharp divide between rural and urban here
Yeah I've felt that when visiting upstate, Drew. Pennsylvania has been worse than that and for a lot longer.
we're not calling him Drumph anymore?
McConnell has already ruled out any action on term limits. The Obama executive orders are definitely in danger. The idea of restricting the lobbying carreers of congressmen has, in the past, been shot down by both sides of the aisle.
Jersey too. Lots and lots of downtrodden areas in that section of the country. Here it's not as stark but it's definitely our reality too - particularly in the old-school mining areas north of the twin cities.
The influx of cheap Chinese steel has killed our mining and steel industries. If changes in trade deals help us bring jobs like that back I expect people will be happy about it. Maybe the auto industry too.
More industry means more work for me, plus less personal income taxes = happy me. So I'm trying to keep an open mind.
jc, I agree that none of those items likely have legs. What would is an executive order shutting down Syrian immigration or Muslim immigration or both.
Fúck that fúcking wall though. NO fúcking way that's happening.
that's future infrastructure

She did but there's some dude that posted "Donald Trump for President" on here way back in 2010.
thanks for the bump
Cerritos, CA, USA
It's true I did predict that. But like the rest of the mooing herd, I eventually became convinced by polls that Hillary would win.
Both Hillary and the pollsters completely ignored the giant oceans of poor white people and the anger level.
They got stuck inside the coastal bubble along with all the assumptions that go with that. A not so insignificant group of them had even voted for Obama.
Biden I think could have carried some of that group.
Sanders would have carried them.
Coulda been yuuuge
but it was her turn!

people are worried a little too much about Trump , especially Trump over Hillary. I have a feeling Trump is going to be the best president we've ever had. people should be worrying about Hillary not the United States
we re-elected her husband even after the things he did with Monica Lewinsky . I'm sure she wanted us to teach him a lesson for that
and then we choose Donald Trump over her? Her life is over she is nothing . from what I've heard she's been a very angry unhappy person even on the road to the White House
I mean she wakes up this morning and she has nothing to do and once again because of the American people she is the most embarrassed woman in the world
she can lay in bed all day if she wants because what difference at this point does it make? something else is Trump going to proceed with the criminal investigations? She's got to be worried about that
you watch , amazing things are going to happen with Donald Trump at the helm
What about Huma? What's she supposed to do now?
She and the rest of the current establishment non-elected elite will go home and cry in their beer for awhile, then plot their return. They're like bedbugs or head lice...hard to eradicate.
They learn to feed on the power structure and so they'll keep going back to it, lobbying and such in between elections and keeping in the mix. And quite a few will probably make it back into the inner circle again after some time.
they belong to what I call the Basket of Deplorables
This is just sad. Maybe they should have voted?
Or encouraged their little swing state friends to do that.
Dems gotta look on the bright side, no TPP, and infrastructure spending on crumbling bridges, roads etc.
Who leads the Dems from here on?

Chicago Loop, Chicago, IL
@drew - just drove past his tower in Chicago. only a few protesters there atm.
@plc - perhaps someone from the Berniecrat side?
Haven't walked by his tower here lately, that of course was campaign hq and the one he lives at.
plc, Minnesota's own Congressman Keith Ellison is being considered for chair of the DNC. Keith championed a constitutional amendment overriding Citizens United and has am extremely good reputation here for honesty and integrity.
And as the first Muslim Congressman in the U.S., you can imagine he pretty much has to be Mr. Clean. You can bet he gets the hairy eyeball from more than one Republican in D.C....especially now.
So all of that being considered, I think he would be an excellent choice to move the Democratic Party past recent horrible disasters. In fact I'd like to see him run for POTUS in 2020. Running the DNC would be a great boost.
I dunno.. Shouldn't the DNC have a full-time head since it's like all-hands on deck for Dems elected now?
I got a kick outta this:
Either way it appears the DNC is poised for a major shift from far left to even farther left. Which should make for interesting times.
Hillary was pretty centrist outside of a few issues.
leftness wasn't her fatal flaw though. she was the embodiment of everything people hate about DC.
It was a change election, people wanted to vote for different
I think the left has tried to shift the left/right endzones. Pulling the left limit towards the center. Personally, I don't buy it. Some have called hillary and obama centrist. That's bull. They're pretty far left.
I wouldn't call them extreme left but I would call them pretty far left.
Jim Webb and John Kasich are centrists
Hillary is a left of center corporatist
Some people have called Trump a Republican. But that's bull.
Not even a big govt Republican, much less a principled one
fix ObamaCare? repeal and replace it? Republicans aren't even republicans anymore
Glad I left those clowns. Of course, now I'm with different types of clowns LOL
Never swing a dead cat in a clown car, Arlington, because you know what will happen. Unfortunately politics in this country is a collection of clown cars.
Uhhh be careful when you talk about clowns... A little insensitive... How about a trigger warning?!
Theres a difference between a conservative and a republican.
Wow, that is incredibly insightful!!!
I'm not sure anyone knows what a Republican is anymore...assuming you meant the party and we're not referring to the Constitutional republic.
Can't the same thing be said of Democrats these days? Republican & Democrat are meaningless titles. Many Republicans are quite liberal and vice versa.
Trump is a republican but he's no conservative.
Political party has more to do with well crafted control over a brainwashed population sector than it does any consistent ideological position
Trump is a White Nationalist. He hijacked the R party for his purposes but I don't think that makes him a "Republican" in anything but name.
By the way. How many campaign promises has Trump already reneged on, how many days before he even takes office?
do you decide who is a conservative plc? like you decided you were a conservative who supports gun control? like you decided drew wasnt a conservative because he questions the level of force of police?
like you decided racer was a far left liberal because he thought accountability in policing was a good thing?
the republican party has been backing donald trump since he won the nomination, republicans who criticized him worried about future voters, now that he has won they are firmly behind him.
your man chris christie backed him from the start.
Racer's a guy?
or like Adam, who dislikes all cops and sees them as the enemy and cheers everytime one is executed.
Trump's already backpedaled on NATO, health care, Hillary's prosecution, walls that are now fences, even the gays. All in less than 7 days after the election.
At this rate by the time he takes office he'll have scuttled the entirety of his pre-election positions and will have a completely new agenda and all new positions on every issue.
The ultimate troll.
I don't if you can say he renegged on promises until he's actually in office though. I also think he views some of that stuff as a negotiating position.
They are his 'first offers' I guess, not the final outcome.
he was never anti gay
Also Doc... "the gays"? Really. Isn't adding 'the' supposed to be bad? You're "otherizing" them! I'm docking you 20 SJW points for misuse of the definite article.
gonna be a great 8 years
Obviously Trump views these things as changeable. That was my point. But he repeated these things over and over as red meat to get elected and I think people want those things. And they'll all be nothing but more lies. Personally I'm relieved.
he never was going to get more than Ryan was going to pay for.
thank god,,, or something
Speaking of reneging on campaign promises, I wonder what Trump is going to do about Guantanamo Bay.
you mean the one that republicans fought tooth and nail and shut down?
I mean the one Obama promised he'd get rid of. Back when the democrats had a super majority.
What will Trump do with it?
I think it's a great quote regarding Trump from Salena Zito. "The press takes him literally, but not seriously; his supporters take him seriously, but not literally."
That's why I don't think the supporters are gonna be so upset if he doesn't follow through on some of the stuff (especially the really over the top things).
Sure some of those supporters probably hang onto every word like it'll happen but others I wonder if they just cheer to troll the press.
sheet man we were all in on it .
interesting though that even speaking "exaggerations" didn't get the "we" people out to vote
Lots of that stuff is just metaphor and hyperbole... And they'll probably be satisfied with 'keeping the promise' merely by Trump making moves in that area, rather than being true to shít literally
it worked for Obama too .
it's going to be cool to have such an intelligent businessman in the white house as opposed to a troublemaker Community organizer .
people I know from the deep left are saying there will be an uptick in crimes against....
wait a minute that was Dr evil! I can't distinguish this from my physical world!
All while Vox is Voxplaining how Trump can't possibly do so-and-so and his supporters will be furious giving dems back control in 2018 because there's this exact detail of some Trump plan that can't possibly work.
in fairness, sites like Infowars were saying similar things about Obama in 08-09 and the Republicans did get the House in 10
That's very true.
2010 was a massive shellacking, much more than the usual. I wonder if we'll see something like that again cuz Democrats really suck at voting in midterms, they think it doesn't count or something
Like it's the PSAT not the SAT, don't worry about it
I can see Trump not running for a second term. Making it even more interesting.
Obama will be in the white house advising Trump far more than you might expect, that's my prediction. Why? #1 cuz Trump is in over his head #2 cuz Obama is staying in DC for his lil girl to finish HS & #3 Obama wants to try to protect legacy
the new modified version of Obamacare will be Trump's Legacy
Trump is going to be the republicans Obama insofar as everything he does will be the polar opposite of what he promised.
And I won't be surprised when most trump supporters will continue to believe he is their savoir, just like so many Ds do to this day with barry.
would it be too much to make the prediction that Trump will turn out to be a much better champion for progressive causes than Hillary would have been.
and in spite of that, progressives will continue to hate him? lmao
any perception of progressivism on trumps part would likely come from conservatives who are disenchanted.
what you are describing is akin to 2 children trying to get the family dog to come to them from opposite sides of the room, this happens in every way and with every thing in our lives. i'll give you a political example.
a cousin of mine posted a facebook picture demanding that flag burning be a felony. i posted her hillary clintons 2005 bill banning flag burning. this did not endear her to hillary clinton one bit. her mind was made up.
for me on the other hand this is when i stopped liking hillary clinton, when she panders to white people in kansas i couldnt give a #### about her.
donald trump ran on ginning up racism and xenophobia, much in the same way obama ran on health care reform. trumps racism may not live up to his voters expectations of him but it will be a promise delivered nonetheless
ala the affordable care act.
just because trump now says he wants to keep some parts of it, just because his wall is now a fence with some very large doors and just because his swamp draining plan includes flooding it first does not mean he will be
progressive by any means other than compared to his original positions he ran on, the ones that his voters love him for, the ones that got him elected.
because he is a tinpot dictator who preys on the fear and stupidity of an electorate and thinks its perfectly fine to toy with jailing your political opponents.
can't argue with that :-)

yes Water I'm a little riled down, I was getting a little spooked on that third term of Barack Obama .
I like what he did but he did it with a bad attitude I just don't like his attitude. I hear is IQ is pretty low also and Donald Trump is a genius
people don't help each other. like what doc Just said, the poor are going to suffer. I don't know if that's true but why should they suffer?
picture this, tens of thousands perhaps millions of people rampaging cities in protests right now
peacefully handing out warm coats and canned food instead?
what I'm trying to ask is ... WAS THE DOC BEING SARCASTIC! ???
do these bleeding heart ássholes say to themselves "now I can't do anything to help the hungry for 4 more years"?
I've been having a ball on Facebook watching them cry, occupy Democrats Etc and very rarely do I hear them speak of helping others .
there are supposed to be protests in Cleveland on Friday . they're protesting Donald Trump because the poor are going to suffer .
these people hate Donald Trump and because of this I have high expectations for the Trump Administration and imagine how
many of them didn't even vote! of course with the Electoral College it might not have mattered either way they can't do anything for the hungry for 4 more years :-)
What's funny is that liberals don't seem to understand that screaming and shouting before Trump even does anything is only going cause people to tune them out later on... Ya know when he's actually *doing something* rather than going to steak dinner.
