Thoughts on it? I sorta remember hearing about this company before and there were always just puff pieces on it and the founder. Yay girlpower kinda thing, but not much substance

I really hope it's a complete fraud because it's not like it's a bad idea. But so many red flags.

How's it work? "A chemistry is performed so that a chemical reaction occurs and generates a signal from the chemical interaction with the sample, which is translated into a result, which is then reviewed by certified laboratory personnel."

That's a standard issue description of a microfluidic test (a.k.a. lab on a chip, if you want to Google that). Doesn't give anything away. Their innovation is in the further miniaturization of the tech, as far as I can tell.

Most of these microfluidic devices are around the size of a microscope slide, I think. Wrote a couple patents for such devices so I had to learn about them, but that was 7 years ago. Not up on the latest.

My concern had been the accuracy versus a standard. For example, http://www.mondaynote.com/2015/10/18/theranos-trouble-a-first-person-account/

Also, I should have written "I really hope it's *NOT* a complete fraud." I mean the whole idea is a good one but maybe she never got the tech to actually deliver precision & accuracy wise. That's why all the smoke and mirrors.

I agree with the idea as well. At the risk of using a buzzword I hate, they have actually changed the paradigm in some states:

However, without the accuracy, they just become another IGeneX

Although I guess another company who came along and nailed the accuracy part could move in there. If not Theranos, then someone else. Thatd be good. Accuracy seems like it'd be maybe a litttttle bit important...

I disagree with one major premise- innovation can come from people with little experience. it absolutely can,the deck is just stacked against them. Anyways, the Quora thread is much more informative.

Oh I definitely agree with that one Mr. Skål. Deck stacked against for sure but sometimes those with limited or less experience can sorta think outside the box..

Absolutely. And consult with content experts to assess feasibility.
