This ruling will give a lot of politicians something to think about. Promoting a program that has been ruled unconstitutional is a risky political stance.

OK, it hasn't been ruled unconstitutional. ..yet. It just exceeds the power of congress. If it is not changed, the court will take it down. As It should.

Congress likes it and the president likes it. Time will tell how much they like it. Enough to reword? I wouldnt be surprised.

I believe it would then be ruled unconstitutional. The judges comments pretty much warned congress it would happen. The fact that it was about to expire kept them from going that far.

The law bassically collects information on the assumption that a future crime will be committed justifying the collection.

jc @ over 2 years ago

Yellow Springs, OH 45387, USA

5f13389fd6ea4b6de49bacec84ed7d8f

That's like tapping your phone assuming that at some point you will commit a crime. That hardly fits anyones perception of a right to privacy.

jc @ over 2 years ago

Yellow Springs, OH 45387, USA

811f304d1edba24fb92ebcd4eeb3d8a8

But it's not the same. Conversations are not recorded. Messages are not stored. There's a huge difference between what is being collected and what the public perceives is being collected.

You and racer are not the determining parties on what is or isnt constitutional. The courts are. And the have not decided whether or not it is. Will they in the future? Who knows.

Personally, I don't believe the program has proven itself to be a wise use of taxpayer money. Megadata is just that. The odds of this connecting the dots in a timely manner is remote at best. Meanwhile it has grown into a behemoth with little

I believe if the public saw the price tag on this program yhey would demand some sort of return on the investment. And that has been sorely lacking. I dont believe they have taken credit for any foiled plots.
