" Democrats say the bill is unnecessarily discriminatory..." PLEASE explain how this bill is discriminatory.

"I just think we are simply saying to people, 'If you are asking for assistance in this state, you're sort of less than other people and we're going to tell you how and where to spend your money,'" said state Rep. Carolyn Bridges"

Not YOUR money. OUR money. And yes. That's exactly what this bill is saying.

When I was 32 I decided it's time I'm going to move out of my parents house and strike out on my own and I did just fine with no help at all

I think the $25 daily limit is the biggest complaint about that specific bill. Specifically, each transaction is $0.85 (after the first). Basically it is a giveaway to the CC processor.

I'm curious how much is actually used on tattoos, cruises, and psychics.

It will be interesting to see how far the bill restricting soda and chips gets before being shot down. Psychics don't own lobbyists. But now they are poking a stick at the big dogs.

The $25 daily limit is only on cash withdrawls. It's intended to prevent the money from being used indiscriminately. I agree with the limits.

The limitations are intended to prevent abuse of the system.

I understand that. That same policy is also lining the pockets of whichever company collects the transaction fees - straight from the taxpayer to their pocket.

Yep. They can still get a five hundred dollar tat. The bank just gets a twenty dollar piece of the action.

You mean corporations are taking advantage of the American taxpayer and our elected officials are allowing this to happen? We should have a war against this sort of thing.

I've yet to hear what the penalty would be for the user or the business, if a known banned service provider accepts the card for payment.

I assume the card provider would block the transaction. The same way they block on line gambling.

I think we can save some money by cutting Kansas loose.

I'm sure there's money built into the law to pay for their inconvenience. Probably more than was ever spent on the banned uses. But, by god, they're gonna teach those freeloaders the right way to spend the taxpayers money.

I didn't look at the link cause I'm on the road but my general problem with curtailing welfare with rules like this is that fraudsters are very resilient. people who actually need assistance will have it harder.

What exactly is wrong with putting conditions on the use of taxpayer dollars? .

Nothing. And if they had put a cap on the amount of cash that could be withdrawn each month, it might have had some small effect. This is just generating transaction fees.

@JC - they did put a monthly cap in place. ($25 per day) x (30 days per month) = $750 monthly maximum

Racer, , That's a little generous for cash. If the law allows them to burn 750 a month on non approved uses, it's useless.

ATMs don't allow $25 increments...so they're really limited to $20 per day cash withdrawal. $20 x 30 days = $600 per month

100 a week in 50 dollar increments would work. Hell, Pink doesn't blow 750 a month on hookers. And they can get cash from retailers in 25 dollar increments. Just buy some groceries and get 25 in cash.

To be honest, I dont know what the average monthly benefit is. I assume most of them don't have 500 left over after food expenses.
