why is the prosecutor prosecuting this officer of the law who practiced restraint?....

the prosecutor is supposed to work to get justice for the people....... McCollough did not.
The Ferguson case should never had gone to grand jury. It only did for political reasons. You aren't capable of understanding that because of your racist mindset.
Sean Bells case should never have gone to trial. It did for political reasons. You CAN'T run over or attack the police. You just can't. It's not only an attack on the police, it's an attack on society as a whole.
If you show me a case where an officer assaults or kills a civilian without the civilan first committing a crime, I'll take a look and come up with a fair opinion of who I think is right based on whatever info on hand.
Race be damned
South Carolina Trooper fires at man getting his license as directed. Trooper was wrong, fired and charged. Appropriately. #### who is what race. I honestly don't care. You do. That's all you care about.
McCullough did get justice for the people. Your racist views prevent you from seeing that. The victim was Wilson.
Society as a whole doesnt accept your black is right at all cost mentality. Do you want your people not beaten assaulted or killed by the police? Tell them to STOP BREAKING THE LAW!!
Not all blacks people break the law. Not all blacks people are beaten by the police. The ones that do obey the law rarely have problems. The ones that don't usually do. What does this tell you?

Iowa City, IA, USA
so this time the guy was obeying the law and did nothing wrong, and the cop used force not needed. went don't you believe his account of what happened?
and for the record in not defending him. I would just like to know why every other instance, like the kid in new York being beaten by a baton while another cop held him down it's, he must have been doing something wrong. but not this time.
this cop said he felt threatened. told they guy to leave several times and he didn't. isn't this where you usually say he should have just followed the cops orders? he brought it upon himself.
should he have done nothing and let the guy take his baton and beat him with it like he said he would. you have posted lots about cops being victims of their own weapons.
please give me some clarity on what's different in this case.
No need to be confused. I haven't defended cops in every instance. Only when I feel they're right. This guy appears to be wrong.
Yes H2O you assume correct.
wrong how? he says he was threatened with a beating by his own weapon. he told the guy to leave. the guy did not. why wrong this time. what should the cop have done?
i prefer to discuss with the facts we have. Did he try to take the officers baton? Are you trying to be facetious? The cop was wrong. You can't go breaking people's hands. Black or white.
Simple question. Did the police officer arrest the guy after he hit him and broke his hand?
all this just makes me wonder why anyone in their right mind would want to be a cop or is that what this discussion is about?

so. he's wrong and should be charged because he showed some sympathy. should have just shot him. then claimed he feared for his life. the guys hand was In his waist=band
you can't break people's hands, but you can shoot them. if you feel threatened. he said he did. should he have let him take his baton and nasty him with it
Did the police officer arrest the guy after he hit him and broke his hand?

Not true. When the police are wrong, they're wrong. I've said it before. They're just not as wrong as often as people like you believe.
Recently the police officer in SC was wrong. From what I know. He was fired and charged. And I agree with that decision. So much for "Plc will always side with the police". Come better than that and stop trolling.
You don't want to have a conversation. You want to convince people that you're right and they're wrong. But you're incapable. You come off as a childish know it all.
admitted he did wrong. ptsd? tells two stories? are you talking about the video thinker posted?
his story doesn't quite line up huh. he just decided he was going to break someone's hand and there was no confrontation at all. is that what you are saying? so why no scrutiny when others stories don't line up.
plc cant read
such as officer Wilson's account of. a recent interview of noticing the cigars, although he had no knowledge of the robbery?
Did you watch his interview? I assumed you did. It's here. http://thefreethoughtproject.com/suspended-st-louis-officer-speaks-darren-wilson-department/

In the video he admits to not following procedure. He admits that he suffers from PTSD. He says that guy told him he was homeless then says the guy told him he just got an apartment and a job.
He says he thinks Officer Wilson committed murder 1. I can expect the uninformed like you and adam to say something so stupid. But not from a Police Officer who should know better. Who should know the law.
Unless, of course, he has an agenda.
I'm curious about what plc thinks of the Denver cops deleting the video of them using excessive force.

He did have knowledge of the robbery before. You are basing your story on false media reports. Im sure you also believe he was shot in the back and on the ground and with his hands up. Even if the autopsy debunks that.
There were many false stories reported. As is usually the case. So people like you pick and choose which to believe. Whatever fits your predisposition.
It was also falsely reported that Officer Wilson had his eye socket broken. But I bet you wont go with that. I choose to go with whats been proven.
Mike Brown was a criminal. Proven
Mike Brown had a physical altercation with Officer Wilson in the police vehicle. Proven
Mike Brown was shot from the front. Proven
Skal, I dont know anything about that. Do you have a link?
Disregard. I just saw it. I dont have a problem with what the police did.
for everyone else
Sarcasm? I'm sorry. I saw the video and saw the police apprehending a drug dealer. His wife put herself in the altercation and has only herself to blame for her falling. Did I miss anything?
When are you guys going to find real cases of abuse? Do I have to do it for you?
I'm shocked you find nothing wrong with police deleting evidence.
wait... no I'm not.
My favorite part is when they said they punched him in the face to prevent him from choking on the drugs.
stupid thing to do.But I can understand the concern over these videos. They allow people to sit back in the comfort of their homes and judge actions they can never understand. Police work is ugly. Just like life.
A video of an incident tells very little of the whole situation.
It only allows people like you to sit back and condemn something you'll never truly comprehend. forcing police to work politically correct is dangerous to everyone. But I'm not sure if you would understand.
They punched him in the face to prevent him from swallowing the evidence. How thoughtful of you to be so concerned about the criminal. Im shocked. No, not really.
"A society that makes war against its police had better learn to make friends with criminals" And this is exactly whats going on in the the black community. Unfortunate.
I brought up no confrontation at all because in every other instance you give some reasoning for the cops to attack. no matter what. seems your issue with b this cop is after the fact he did not treat the guy harsh enough. that he didn't follow
procedure by being too soft and not charging him because he felt for the guys circumstances. I said was there no attack because you have consistently said even though the person is not armed they could take the officers weapon and use it against him
well, this cop says this guy told him that's exactly what he was going to do, then he approached him. thus cop should have just shot him dead and said he feared for his life, or beat him and charged him with getting blood on his baton. then all would
have been well.
the police chief said he didnt.
this one said he did. but I'm the one with misinformati
or is it conflicting stories. did the police chief lie. why the conflicting accounts. but no scrutiny on this.
conflicting stories in the same day. first he said he didn't know if and it was about the walking in the street. then he said he noticed
the cigars. no suspicion of that though, huh? why?
you do notice all of you "abuse" instances have the person cleared by video. that the people were charged and had there not been video the officer more than likely would have gotten away with it. you do notice their version of the events don't match
yet, an unarmed person gets killed, several witnesses (not just black ones) say with his hands up. but not one shred of doubt in your mind. police don't tell stories to make themselves look justified correct?
there are conflicting stories coming from the police themselves, yet you are positive things went as they said. in one case but not the other. interesting.
should have just shot him, and said he rushed him. he feared for his life. I mean he did tell him he was going to be beat him to death with his own baton.
He did know about the robbery before hand but that was not the reason he stopped the 2 men. He stopped them for walking in the middle of the street. Then he realized they May be involved in the robbery.
The chief doesn't say Wilson didn't know he says that the initial contact at nothing to do with the robbery which is correct.
Gore didn't arrest the man because the man hadn't committed a crime. Struck a guy who hadn't committed a crime. That's a problem.
They had a verbal disagreement. That's it. Didn't have to shoot him hit him beat him tase him. The man committed no crime. Gore seems to have flown off the handle. Common with PTSD.
I'm trying to cover all of your points. Did I miss anything?
"you do notice all of you "abuse" instances have the person cleared by video." Not true.
I don't need to be a police officer to know that destroying potentially damning evidence is a problem.
what happens when civilians do the same?
Folwell, Rochester, MN 55902
in our system where it's the officer's word against the citizen, the officer usually wins.
they have incentive to destroy any evidence that may counter their narrative.
after the officer shouted camera, it seems like there is a protocol in place to destroy the evidence.
and it's a wonder that complaints of excessive force drop after body cameras are implemented.
I'm less concerned about the criminal in the Denver case then I am about your complacency with police destroying evidence and finding nothing wrong with it.
police do great things and deserve our respect and gratitude. but they also shouldn't be given carte blanche.
where there's smoke, there's fire.
there's a difference between declaring war on police and demanding accountability.
the act of destroying evidence creates an appearance of corruption and is only feeding the increasing demands for higher levels of accountability.
So your primary concern is that they deleted the video not their actions, am I correct?
Ok. I agree it was wrong and stupid.
if it was an isolated occurrence, it'd be a non issue.
it's not, and it only serves to increase police mistrust.
It reminds me of a video that was posted here over year ago where the police chased a guy filming them into his home. That was stupid wrong and criminal.
This is an isolated incident. The level of police mistrust existed before this occurred. The current level of police mistrust based on video only proves how ignorant the average civilian is when it comes to police action
destroying video and photo evidence gives the appearance of wrongdoing.
the police in this case have only themselves to blame for this perception.
and it's not isolated.
Downtown, Rochester, MN
I agree. Except for the isolated part.
nothing a little googling can't fix.
Do you mean isolated as it's never happened before or isolated as it rarely happens? It would be silly to say it's never happened. It is very uncommon.
rarity depends on how the denominator is framed.
How many instances per how many police encounters per year.
The last I found was 2012. Did you find anything more recent?
inappropriately large denominator.
encounters must include use of force
numerator should include: deleted video/photos + cameras turned off/"malfunctioned"
denominator includes: all encounters with use of force and either body/dash cam present or civilian video/photo taken.
this data doesn't exist... but fluffing the denominator by counting benign police encounters isn't a valid way to assess rarity
population affected ÷ population at risk.

Mike Brown is not a martyr
Seems like the case that the govt came up with was Mike Brown's shooting was justified *but* also (and these two things are not mutually exclusive) the Ferguson PD otherwise has serious issues
Midtown, New York, NY
What's interesting is the credible witnesses (credible because their testimony matched forensics and they were consistent) basically corroborated what Wilson said. Those people were all afraid to come forward
Eric Holder's investigation into Wilson basically comported with what the Grand Jury found.
Page 82 onward. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2015/03/04/us/doj-report-on-shooting-of-michael-brown.html
Let's summarize . Page 82 Shots fired at Wilson were in self-defense. P83- hands up, don't shoot never happened... Page 84- shooting justified... Page 85- federal law had requirements even further than if he wasn't justified (which he was)
Page 86, this matter should be closed. The end
I honestly care a LOT less about that case, and more about the systemic problems, and their systemic solutions. You can fight about that all you want.
Cerritos, CA, USA
I agree, just pushing back on this idea that the governments case was "Wilson is guilty, we just can't prove it" . That's not at all what was said.
Murray Hill, New York, NY
I can't believe this doesn't happen where you live. I lived in the STL area most of my life and all of the PDs use tickets for a money grab. this is not exclusive to Ferguson. It goes back to the saying "crime doesn't pay "
except now that means solving a real crime nets $0 for the town whereas tickets mean $$$.
the less crime a town has means more POs for DWI checks, speedtraps, and other moving violations.
Actually, solving real crime nets a lot more $$ than do tickets. Its just not as direct. The social implications of not solving real crime translates into real $$.
Everything reported regarding the FPD could be said for every department around the country if not the world. The public doesn't understand the politics of policing nor the ugly side of keeping communities safe.
well since the cops in NYC backed off gun violence has gone up.
can you describe the ugly side of keeping communities safe...for those of us unfamiliar with it?
can we handle the truth?
are you suggesting that every police department in the world is racist?
Tucker, GA 30084, USA
Well in Georgia, yes
I suggest that you can find racists in every organization.
And no, you can't handle the truth.
its ugly, rude, it curses and is sometimes violent. but necessary.
you suggest that you can find racism in every organization in the world...or every police organization?
Norcross, GA 30093, USA
is this racism in police organizations necessary?
Every organization period.
Is racism anywhere necessary?
I think it's elitist to think the public can't handle the truth. to me, that's just a copout for "this is how we've always done it, and we don't wanna change."
Marina, San Diego, CA
elitist? LOL Whats the opposite of elitist? It's tough dirty work. The reality isn't shown on law & order. Reality is not easy to transfer. Personal experience cant be easily explained.
You can listen to story after story from Grandpa or Uncle Joe about how it was in "the war" but you'll never be able to understand unless you experience it.
Obviously the public is capable of understanding. Look at the garner protests. The Ferguson riots. Those are examples of the naive public not understanding how things work.
You want change? Throw on a uniform and change it. The peanut gallery gets very little actual input into change. To change you need those with real life experience to change it. Not those who've never held a gun.
"In his 1945 "Notes on Nationalism", Orwell wrote that pacifists cannot accept the statement "Those who 'abjure' violence can do so only because others are committing violence on their behalf.""
what does "those who've never held a gun" mean to you in relation to making changes. those in uniform really just enforce change, don't they?
And managing hedge funds is also a dirty business. people who haven't been there can't really comment on the corruption that exists within the profession.
Jefferson, GA, USA
Unless you're willing to roll down your sleeves, and put on a necktie...you can't do anything about it.
It's just the nature of things.
That's a logical argument.
what's brilliant about it, is that you dismiss your opponents argument while simultaneously diminishing its value...all without having to actually defend your own position.
So racist cops are ok because there are racists...around in general?
Seems to me that ferreting out racism is far more important in some organizations than others.
The most important of these would be organizations that have actual power and

authority over the general public.
In my opinion.
Racists running Wal-Mart? Don't shop there. Racists running your local police force? Ummm...Don't....what, allow you're kitty to get stuck in a tree, have a noise complaint, have someone break into your house...if you are black?
The government has a duty to serve all its citizens. All of them with equal protection.
It's not ok to simply accept that there is racism in such an organization.
I wonder if the people who are concerned about these things will retire the bullshít chant that is "hands up, don't shoot".
How many cops in Ferguson were confirmed to be involved in activities that could be perceived as racist?

Drew, thanks for thinking deeply about this
ami I think the summary of statistics here is representative. I don't think the report gets to that statistic. The pervasive atmosphere here is pretty undeniable though.
The percentages would imply a greater focus on policing the black community. I would guess actual crimes being committed are fairly equal between races there as they have similar socioeconomic situations.
We have to be honest on all fronts here. Children of all races should see police work as a career meant to truly serve and protect. Too many simply see them as hired goons for the municipality. The mafia.
Outright lies are very harmful as well "hands up, don't shoot". Until both sides can be honest about their role in the situation, nothing will change.
Not to mention continuing to chant "Hands up, Don't shoot" (since everyone knows it's a lie) is a bit of a distraction from the other concerns.
Also the summary of statistics isn't as helpful as you think, victimization surveys show crimes aren't committed at the same rates in different groups. I'd like to see more of a comparison with that.
I believe the report is available for download in pdf...I'm guessing there are deeper stats in there but reporters generally don't take any math after high school. lol
