How come history books never speak of john hanson, a black man, the first leader (president) of what is now known as the United States of America.

How much more of history has been emasked to promote a false picture of history?

Why am I just finding his out?
Why was this not mentioned in any of my civics classes?
What the #### is going on ppl! ####ing Abraham Lincoln was black, i always did see my self in him.
Thomas freaking jefferson black? I knew he had slave children, but he is black because his mom was half black?
Dwight D Eisenhower black lookng at him through a different lense i see it.
Harding black, andrew jackson black, freaking coolidge black
Lol it makes sensd though these were some of the most progressive presidents....lol

Lol you think so drew?
Lincolns known father was known to be sterile since childhood
Were you evertaught about john hanson?
In grade school.
America would never openly accept this.....lol in reality could it? Iy has been wonder how mich more of history has been manipulated.
John Hanson was the first of seven Presidents elected under the Articles of Confederation I believe. George Washington was the first elected under our current Constitution

Wow. So what I gather is the best truth about Hanson is that there is so much disinformation about it that we can't really know what his background is. PLC, in your link, did you note how she wrote "he is NOT black", but provided ...
West Torrance, Torrance, CA
...no evidence to support that. While drew's link claimed he was Swedish. PLC's link challenges that conclusion. So what does that mean? You get to pick the history that best matches your world view. Even better, make up your own!
as to why history is written in a particular way...isn't that obvious?
"Some have confused the colonial-era John Hanson with a politician from the African nation of Liberia who lived decades later in the mid-1800s."
i find it completely irresponsible that thinker would post something like this without taking the 5 seconds to see that whoever told him this was wrong.

Drew he is mixed with mulatto.... Have you ever seen a pic of him?
In grade school we are taught about the near eradication of the indian ppl, and the founding of fhe nation, but very little about what happened in between
Look at his face drew. Broad wide nose curly hair. I see a light skinned black man when look at him
Pink every publication and image of jesus to the main stream is of a blued blonded haired man. When you look at the geography and location of where jesus was supposedly born and the discription of jesus in the bible. It is highly unlikely that the
Image we tattoe in our minds is true. I am not saying he is black, i dont know that, but i am saying that is was more likely that he was a man of color.
I believe they rendered this based on the Shroud of Turin
Villa Park, IL, USA
Really if Jesus was the immaculately conceived, he could have been any color
True enough ami, but my question is how did we extropolate eye and hair color
He looks like Kevin Spacey
Drew can you really look at that picture of hanson and not see his african heritage?
How do you explain the other presidents
I think you're seeing what you want to see. Tell us the truth, did you confuse colonial-era Hanson with the Liberian guy?
Lol are you all telling me that hanson doesn't look like he has very near black relatives?
That nose is telling otherwise
No the hanson the i looked up is the same on drew did.
Jesus was for everyone, and in him anyone could see themselves. The Catholic Church made the image you are referring to popular, they chose to see themselves. In the same fashion you often see black and Hispanic Jesuses. ..Jesi?
But jesus was born of men. Why not have a honest depction of him.
Ok so besides your claiming to see African ancestry in the painting, is there any other evidence for mulatto? (also remember there would only be paintings, there cannot be a photograph of the earlier Hanson since photography wasn't invented yet)
thinker, that's the thing, no one knows what an honest depiction of him would be, so people choose to see themselves
All i am saying is generate an image based off of wbat we know.
Also, now I could be wrong but I thought that under the Articles of Confederation, all the states were basically sovereign and it was just a sorta union like NATO. So it's "president" would basically be mostly a figurehead, right?
Drew There is no direct proof did you think there would be.
All i am saying is look at the man
Makes you wonder why the continental congress is never spoken of or referenced.
I thought there would be more to go on than he looks like he's got sub-Saharan African ancestry. Seems like all the references I see to it are from people who actually did confuse the two John Hansons.
How do you explain the others drew
John Hanson was the first president of the Congress under the Articles of Confederation but he was not the first president of the Continental Congress I think.
There's loads referencing the continental congress by the way but it's not included when you're talking about Presidents because....when we say President (esp capitalized) it is shorthand for the office created under the US Constitution
Let me ask ami you dont see your self in a darker hued jesus?
Before the US Constitution, "president" I think was mostly a ceremonial leader, that kinda president still exists for example in Ireland and Poland, there are "presidents" that take the place of former constitutional monarchs.
Thats why i put president in parenthesis, but you would think that history would pay homage to such an important role in the structuring of the foundation for which this nation was founded on....why is that?
thinker, when I refer to most I certainly do not refer to myself. I believe Jesus sees himself in me and you equally. How I perceive him is inconsequential. Honestly I have zero precognition of what the man looked like
And fhat is my whole point we should not, and if we do we should refer instead of infer what he loomed like.
Thinker, it *wasn't* an important role. It was mostly ceremonial that's why there isn't much mentioned on it I think. It isn't a conspiracy
Lol...The man made thanks giving drew..... Thanks freakning giving.
Seriously drew the man held the new cointry together so that there could be a Uniyed states. I think that is wsy worth mentioning
They just want you to believe it was ceremonial
Damn evil "them"!
we can see your excitement!
Why have you invested so much of you're self-worth in the race of the first president? There's one race; the human race. Get over this nonsense. There's so much more to life. Stop letting them hold you back.
You know angelus i like your comment and i agree with you. I have lived my whole life with color-free shades on. Believing that every peraon is judeged based of the their character. It wasn't until Barack Obama was elected president, and getting on
VM that i started paying attention to the small nuances of our country of today. I asked my self the question why is it that the majority of the black and brown communities are concentrated in the inner city? Why is it whe you look at the employment
Distribution black ppl make up roughly 13 percent of the country, but have an unemloyment rate twice thay of whites? Why is it that for every single dollar spent in black community schools there is 10 dollars spent in white community schools.
These arejist some of the questions i began asking myself, andthe conclusion i draw is that the world has not changed. It is sort of like thesaying, "the more things change the more they stay the same". This world seems more equa, more tolerant, but
The more you scratch the surfaces tje more you realize the world has not changed its heart only its methods.
Angelus it is hard for me, at this point, to say that ppl are ppl because we are not.
Black ppl are objectified, scrutunized, stereotyped more than any group in this country.
I think angelus' point is that to spend such energy only helps to increase the divide.
energy better spent on a positive path forward, rather than obsessing over the poison of the past. learn from the past, but don't expect it to change.
Why does discussion increase the divide? Are the wordsk spew hate filled
Why is it taboo to discuss racism, when there is obviously a racial divide in this country.
Underwater this is todays world i am speaking of not yesteryear..... Today.
this is so uncomfortable
Black people are stereotyped? Just buy a belt and figure out how to use a alarm clock.

anytime someone of color makes a remark on the state of things it's complaining, not having self responsibility, deviding, or focusing on color.
no. it's just a reality of where things are. It's not a declaration of how every moment is spent thinking about their color, or making an excuse for where they are (as I think thinker and I are doing quite well). it's a reality that even though
It's a great thought to say color makes no difference, and I only see human race. that is not a reality afforded to blacks. that's simple truth. While you can't let it rule your decisions or control your ambitions and goals, the fact of the matter is
When an educated, well off, proper speaking, well dressed black man encounters many every day occurrences (such as being pulled over by the cops) the situation plays out far different than it would for a white man.
reality. When a black man is all those things I just described he is often still looked at as coming to that place by ill gotten means.
stating black unemployment is twice that of whites (as it always has been) is not saying poor me I can't get a job, or all whites are racist. it's saying that doesn't add up.
John's response to thinker saying blacks get stereotyped a lot says volumes. He put a question mark behind it inferring the stereotyped are true, then grabbed for the action of the bottom of the barrel blacks to
to legitimize this slanted view. I went on a rant a couple weeks ago because it became slightly annoying seen those types of comments over and over and over from a select few people because it is indicative of our society as a whole imo.
soooo, why do blacks call a successful black man "uncle tom"?
why is it acceptable for a black (or liberal) to use the term nígger, but not whitey?
there's a lot of "stereotyping" to go around on both sides Don.
Battlefield, VA, USA
The attitude that "I'm not racist" but I only have severely negative things to say about that race and I will say them over and over with no real point. Just to remind everyone how bad they are. To the point of one of them asking me, and meaning it
to name them one positive thing in the black community. now if your thought pattern is there is nothing good in the black community, and the majority of blacks are just like the bottom of the barrel ones there is no need for you to be racist.
The results of that are the same. makes it real easy to dismiss things like twice the unemployment holding steady as they are simply twice as lazy.
H20. which blacks are those that call successful blacks "uncle toms?" thanks again for pinning the action of the few on the whole.
Why is it OK for you to call your wife sugar, and not another man? personal relationships dictate a lot of language used among people. The wrong black man calls another a n! gger and it's just as bad. context is everything.
You will often see a white people who hang with blacks saying it to them also and it won't be a big deal. my question to you is do you feel slighted not being able to use it when you want?
and yes there is a lot of stereotyping and racism to go around on all sides. This isn't just a bad whitey situation.
It's no more right to buy into the "rich cracka" stereotype as it is to buy into the "thug n!gga" one. my point is even if you aren't racist, considering those stereotypes a truth among the majority of a race is as harmful as being racist.
Justice Thomas... by many so called black leaders.
when the leadership uses derogatory language, it's going to associate across the board.
I've never considered using that term to describe my in-laws and not surprising to me,
... they find it offensive, no matter who uses it. (either term).
Unemployment is tied to education and environment, not strictly race.
Unfortunately, neither side wants to address the harsh realities of it.
Money alone hasn't solved it, evidence the DoE, a failure.
Check the latest reports on desegregation, dropout rates, reading & math capabilities, etc...
The leadership? Al sharpton? come on now. If someone who would call another black man an uncle Tom for being successful is deemed "leadership" or considered such then that is part of the problem.
Iowa City, IA, USA
There again is logical anomaly. To think that blacks as a whole believe successful blacks are "uncle toms" or "selling out". it has no basis in truth and again only serves to make it seem as if blacks have no desire to be successful.
but......even "non racist" whites think that is how most blacks think. It's not.
h20 I believe thinker brought that up too. The concentration of very low income to poverty, and the schools. it's self fulfilling proficy. money isn't everything but the lack of it causes issues.
The cities spend less on the schools because they have less because the area is so poor.
I thought Uncle Tom was reserved for those with an "incorrect" political opinion.
New York, NY 10016, USA
And Sharpton, he may not be as much nationally, but here in New York that schmuck *is* considered a black leader.
That's unfortunate drew. him and Jackson being ran out in front of the public to start talking anytime an issue with race comes up infuriates me.
h20. The issue is very complex and you are right education does play a large part. however, if you line up education levels it also holds at about twice as much.
Yeah it's fcked up Don. Every local politician has to make nice with Rev Al.
For the record I don't think it's "racism" driving it.
I believe it's a combination of status quo and as we all know getting hired is often not what you know as much as who you know.
I'd like to see how the rates compare with similarly educated immigrants.
I'll try to find it but I believe I came across something that says it mirrors the national rate
You have to remember though it's no longer give us your tired your hungry etc. It's what do you have for us. That combines with a general higher education level just to get out if their country somewhat skews what an imigrant actually is.
They may take lower lever jibs here for a short period of time, but it's not as if they forgot how to be successful and cannot use that to their advantage or pass it to their children.
Which brings up another part of the puzzle h20. The passing of knowledge, skills, and expertise.
Some took me saying an acceptance of illegal activity as meaning blacks as a whole are OK with it. what I meant was though history, some very recent, many blacks had to operate outside the law and those are the skills and traits they modeled and
That's why I said, controlling for education. And also I'm curious how black immigrants stack up with black Americans?
passed on. hard to teach and tell things you know nothing about.
I would too drew. I don't know where to begin to look for that.
It isn't a relevant comparison anyways.

Well to apply it to pre-20th century Presidents would be quite anachronistic, don't ya think?
It's mostly in the US we see it. My London friend identifies as mixed, not Black. Different strokes for different folks.
I'm lost. one drop must equal black?
and cool link, thinker. the biggest problem with her talk, though, it's she's preaching to the choir.
The rule is that your ancestry must be at least 1/16 of a particular race to identify as that on the census, I believe

Loved those articles, but my point/ question still stands why is it that men with obvious african ancestry considered white?
John hanson was a known Moor, in the UK. In the Uk at the time moor was a name given to all black ppl
By todays standards someone like hanson would be considered black.
And that is a very interesting point thinker and I know this is going to be tough for you. Why does Obama who probably is more than 50% Caucasian call himself black?
You're calling people 12% black, blacks.Yet here is Obama guaranteed at least 50% white jet setting around the world
With all his promises to the African American( giving them nothing) and partying on our dime using that dark skin as a weapon giving blacks a bad name
That is a great question, actually pink obama is half white if not more.
Is it because of his darker hue? Or his curly hair? Or his broad defining features?
yep "question" is the operative
That we consider him black
Giving blacks a bad name? How so?
nope it's your weakness of mind. You had a chance with that pizza guy but he got knocked down by none other than who? The Liberals
You know why Obama probably identifies as black because? Because that is the category America has put him in.
I'd explain it to you but your head would explode
My opinion has always been why should the president do anything for one group over the other.
Bama's white look at his spoiled life.No knowledge of the "Black experience" except for his drug use of course
Another good point because Obama has constantly made a distinction of his color..you lose pal ok?
, and yes that is WV conservative.
Lol, you talking about herman cain? He was a lying cheater. Lol, how could you trust a man that that could not even be faithful to his wife?
He identifies very clearly as an African-American as opposed to a melting pot American, which makes him totally unqualified to be president for Americans of all races and ethnicities.
yes or no?
you lose you look foolish you goofed that was your chance and because of Bama's lies it was you last chance. You will not live long enough to see another
I know obama identifies him self as a black man. Black ppl accept all of our brothers and sisters of mixed descent. It is just our nature. I asked the question why does he consider him self black. Society labeled him black the moment he entered
of course and that was the last time because he set a terrible example with the drugs lies and parties
