What's off subject? Did you even read the op? This thread is about the TSA and their ineffectiveness. Perhaps you missed the part where the TSA failed and the only reason planes were not blown up was because of the heroic actions of passengers.

AH,,,From a logistics point of view, it make more sense to have a single point of screening for the entire airport. Having each airline do a screening would be a nightmare. Having the responsibility fall on the airport would still be a govt action.

If the entire cost was covered by added fees, you could almost say that the tsa was contracted by the airlines. Sort of a reversal of the usual govt/contractor relationship. That brings up another question. How would you judge a private company

Jc I'm not suggesting individual airlines each implement their own method. Each airport should be responsible for its own security. The logistics of implementing it does not change depending on who implements it.

i think it should be airline driven. and perhaps some air lines have a preferred passenger list, maybe with an initial background check. if we can get the business people who fly every week through quickly, will save a lot of time.

Daju,, That's already being done. I recently flew southwest. (No business class) That was the first time I was subjected to the "full treatment". Did you ever notice the other entrance to security. That's what a first class fare gets you.

btw,, Britain has different standards for specific destinations. If you are flying to America they have a random pat down system after the normal security. Probably other destinations as well.

Interestingly, I think passengers themselves have made things a lot safer. People don't put up with unruly behavior on the plane anymore. Remember the Dutchman who tackled the shoe bomber? It seems like this is becoming the norm.
